Evolution or Creation - What do you believe?

There are many questions on where to start when I chose this topic, Evolution or Creation? But every story should have beginning, so let’s start and see where it is destined to end.

Evolution is the theory of universe and life as per science. Creation is a faith or a belief of universe and life as per our religions. Both are showing the same truth in different dimensions, so what should we believe? There is always a conflict behind these two theories or beliefs. There are many people who argue why should we believe there is a higher being(s)? Should we believe in God even though there is no actual proof that it exists? I thought to reason it through the theory of evolution in an effort to understand creationism better.

Why do we believe in evolution? (Evolution of Universe - big bang theory and Evolution of life)

Evolution of Universe: The prevailing theory of evolutions is referred to as the Big Bang, where the universe is expanding from the point of singularity. It is said our universe has nearly 200 billion galaxies and our galaxy (Milky Way) has 100 billion stars, with each star having a planetary system which is more or less similar to our solar system.

Let’s talk about our Milky Way, which consists of 100 billion stars and 8 planets, so far the life sustaining planet known to us is Earth. As of now we are the only planet which has the ability to sustain life. There are a few planets which many scientists have thought may have the ability to sustain life, but there is still no actual evidence that life exist or existed in a different planet. The probability of formation of life sustaining earth in our galaxy is 1 in 100 billion.

On the other hand if we talk about evolution of life which is the belief that life evolved as a result of asteroids hitting earth surface and forming different compositions of gases and chemicals. One such composition from billion combinations formed organic substance which is called genetic material. The first living cell which changed the course of earth and transformed into the very intelligent being of the known universe. According to scientific probabilities the formation of life on earth was at 1 in a billion.

Until now we are talking about evolution of earth in our galaxy and evolution of life on earth which is (1 in 100 billion)*(1 in a billion) instance. If you revisit the scale of evolution from the simplest single cell to the most advanced being on earth, you will understand it is not a linear process. Every stage of transformation is so complex, changing through mutations, adapting for the environmental changes (natural selection), sustaining the fight of existence, inheriting the genes to be the fittest and tackling the natural disasters for the survival.  In the complicated process of evolution the best are the ones who sustained and survived are evolved into species.

Everything you see on current day earth is the result of billions of years of transformation and evolution. The probability of this to happen is extremely rare and cannot be recreated. No one can relive   the past of the life (evolution as a whole) and tell what exactly happened in these 13.7 billion years. Without drawing any conclusion, if we can believe the complex theory of evolution why can’t we believe a simple faith – GOD?

There are several things in this world which we are unaware of; everything we learn about the universe is based on science. We should not draw a conclusion for the things we do not know and cannot say they don’t exist, just because we don’t know. For e.g.: An apple thrown up will fall on the ground, if I ask a person who believes in science. Why does the apple fall down? He will start with according to Newton’s law of gravity and completes it by explaining the laws of gravity. If the same question when asked to someone who doesn’t know about Newton will use the phrases like “Will of God! as it is his creation”, “God wants me to keep it” or “He given it back”. We need to understand there was gravity before and after Newton and there is the same gravity act on who believes in Newton and who doesn’t believe in him. It will not change because you aren’t aware of the laws of gravity or you won’t accept it, for those who don’t believe in the existence of God, will question how it impacts them which may not. Just like gravity for all, it remains same for the believer and non-believers, God too. However, when you learn about gravity you will learn the application of it in our lives. The same way when you learn about God you will know how he transforms lives.

I believe, just like the tracks of the rail which runs parallel and complement each other, evolution and creationism leads us to the same destination. In the course of evolution whenever there is a need to reestablish the balance of life, God showed his skilled craftsmen ship and helped us to evolve. WE DON’T KNOW – so we should give our futures generations the knowledge of what we know about science and what we learned about God as it is without conclusions so they can continue learning about the both. After all 13.7 billion years of history cannot be taught purely based on the thousands of years in by of human history.

Special thanks to Aravinda, Priyanka and Edward.

  5. Well put! Tilak,
'Just like gravity for all, it remains same for the believer and non-believers, God too. However, when you learn about gravity you will learn the application of it in our lives.' very true...

But it may not be just a belief.. there is something more and beyond..which needs to be explored!

Hoping to get deeper and deeper into the subject through your views..

    Thank you very much!

Knowledge of Universe

Welcome to My View, from the corner of the Eye! I am going to share my views about universe. The big mighty universe!! Before moving to the content, I have a question to ask all of you. Have you ever been curious looking at the sky?  Looking at the stars, moon and the Sun, have you ever thought what’s happening there, if yes let me tell you I am one of you. My curiosity of extra-terrestrial matter: In my younger years when I used to look into the sky, I used to get overwhelmed and curious. I don’t know what kept me glued to it; I and my curiosity have grown together. I started reading philosophy, mythology, religious books and books of cosmic sciences. After reading the books of cosmic sciences, I could relate to it, I could find a similarity between my thoughts and this knowledge. This answered lot of questions running through my mind all these years. I also started learning Vedas. Trust me it was astonishing to find out our ancestors had the same question

Know Your Dharma

Sanathan Dharma! How to define and where to start? Is this the oldest religion on Earth or the oldest human civilization? Or shall I say the knowledge preserved by our ancestors to mankind! Whatever it is understood today, the core purpose of the Sanathan Dharma is to let you know how to live in alignment with Cosmic law and lead you to liberation. In the current belief system religions are majorly governed by 'A Book' that promotes the belief in God, you will go to heaven, otherwise the fire in hell is waiting for you. My question to you is, is the Almighty selfish? The one who created the entire universe and the multiverse, and the lord of non-living and the living, would have created rules for human beings separately? This is something that requires an in depth thought. Sanathan Dharma always talks about liberation. Liberation from the worldly things and to be aligned with the Laya (The Cosmic Law). Sanathan Dharma talks about shrishti (creation), sthiti
